Director Andy Muschietti, who worked on the "It" films and "The Flash" movie, confirmed that the film adaptation for "Shadow of the Colossus" could still be made if he can find studio support.

The news comes more than a decade and a half since Sony announced that it was working on bringing the popular game to the big screen. The project passed hands from "Chronicle" director Josh Trank and "Shogun" writer Justin Marks before going to Muschietti.

Shadow of the Colossus Movie

That was way back in 2014, and since then, there hasn't been any real information or updates that fans were given about the project. Many people simply assumed that the film adaptation was already scrapped.

However, during a recent interview with Radio TU, Muschietti said that they have not yet abandoned the "Shadow of the Colossus" film adaptation project. He still wants to make the movie and is just having trouble getting studio support for it, according to JoBlo.

The "Shadow of the Colossus" game was originally released in 2005 and had a story that focused on a young man named Wander, based on the game's manual.

He is tasked with finding and defeating 16 massive colossi that live within a desolate region in the hopes of resurrecting a sacrificed girl named Mono.

The game received a remake in 2018 that was released on the PlayStation 4, featuring upgraded visuals. Muschietti said in a recent interview that while he is not a gamer, he saw "Shadow of the Colossus" as a masterpiece, and he played it several times.

Trouble With Financing

The director added that the movie has spent more than a decade in development and still has a shot at life. Muschietti reassured fans that the "Shadow of the Colossus" film adaptation is not an "abandoned project," IGN said.

There was not much information given as to why the movie has taken so long, but Muschiette shed a bit of light on that. He said that making a good film version of the game required working with Sony to determine a budget.

The director added that there are different versions of the film, and he originally wanted $200 million from the company. He also said that there was already a script for the project that he liked but noted that there were other factors to consider.

Despite the positive news, the full production of the "Shadow of the Colossus" movie has not yet started, as financing is currently the director's biggest challenge.

Some people believe that a $200 million budget may be wishful thinking from Muschietti for something that could be seen by investors as risky, according to The Gamer.
