The five Scottish places that need to be on your list when travelling solo

A LUXURY hotel brand has developed a list of the top five Scottish locations for a solo travel trip.

Crerar Hotels Group, a collection of seven four and five-star hotels, wants to capitalise on the increasing trend of solo travel.

According to website Solo Traveller, Google searches for solo travel have quadrupled since 2020.

Here’s the places which made the list.

Mull

The Isle of Mull, located off the west coast of Scotland, and there’s plenty to do when you arrive.

Whether it’s visiting the town of Tobermory known for its coloured houses or exploring some of the great restaurants on offer, there’s something for everyone.

There’s also Duart Castle which dates back to the 13th century.

Oban

One of the most popular towns in Scotland, there’s plenty to do in the town from the Oban War & Peace Museum to a guided tour of the distillery.

It’s also a handy base for exploring the west coast with links to the isles, including Mull, from the mainland.

Ballater, Royal Deeside

Steeped in history and with plenty to explore, Ballater is one of Scotland’s most scenic villages.

Many enjoy taking a trip along the iconic Royal Deeside Railway to experience the steam and diesel services which provide breathtaking views over the River Dee and the hills to the south.

Inveraray

Located around 65 miles from Glasgow, Inveraray sits in a spot overlooking Loch Fyne and is a small community where visitors are warmly welcomed.

There’s plenty to keep you busy, with the Inveraray jail and courthouse, now a museum, proving popular with tourists.

The castle (below) is also not to be missed and overall the town is a good base for exploring the rest of the Scottish Highlands.

Glencoe

One of Scotland’s most famous spots is a popular area for mountaineering, hiking and climbing.

There are eight Munros for those keen on the outdoors which offer some of the best ways to take in the stunning Highland scenery.
