The five players Edu can sell to help Arsenal fund Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi transfers

Arsenal are gearing up for a huge summer transfer window ahead, where a whole host of changes could take the squad to the next level. The first thought for many will naturally be incomings and whether any potential arrivals could strengthen the side for the next campaign.

The midfield appears to be an area of focus for the Gunners as football.london understands that Declan Rice is a top priority for the club ahead of the transfer window. The West Ham captain, though entering the final 12 months of his contract, is unlikely to come cheap though.

There's also reports that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is "very close" to joining the club, with his release clause standing at £52million. The pair alone could comfortably cost over £100million, meaning that some exits are likely needed to help fund the spending.

With that in mind, here's a look at a number of players that could be sold to help Arsenal's transfer window ahead.

Charlie Patino

Youngster Charlie Patino has impressed in his loan spell with Blackpool, playing a large majority of their games, despite suffering a huge injury. While that experience will have helped his progression, reports claim that the youngster is in search of first-team football on a regular basis.

This is something the Gunners are unlikely to be able to provide and with a dwindling contract, it may be best for all parties if a move is made and a transfer fee is received.

Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun could find himself in a similar spot to Patino going into the summer transfer window, though there may be more hope of a first-team spot after his goal scoring run with Reims in Ligue 1. However, should a move be facilitated, Arsenal could earn a healthy fee for the youngster.

Kieran Tierney

Once a first-team regular, Kieran Tierney has often found himself making cameo appearances from the bench that have given him little chance to feature. The inverted wing-back role doesn't play to his strengths and while he is still rated highly, it could be the time to move the left-back on.

Nuno Tavares

Seemingly a backup option to Tierney, Nuno Tavares was tipped for great things after his move from Benfica. However a tough debut season led to a loan move to Marseille, where he has shown glimpses of the good and the bad that was seen in his time at the Emirates Stadium.

With the youngster unlikely to fit into the side, it could be the time to move him on too and reinvest the money elsewhere.

Nicolas Pepe

Club-record signing Nicolas Pepe has hardly had the glimmering Arsenal career many would've expected when he made the £75million move from France. However, after many attempts to reboot it, his loan move with OGC Nice has done little to convince that he will return to the form that earned him a huge transfer and a sale may be best for all involved.
