The five Arsenal deals that will affect Pedro Neto if Edu completes £15m transfer masterstroke

Arsenal continue to be linked with reinforcements ahead of transfer deadline day.

Having signed Matt Turner to provide competition in the goalkeeping department to Aaron Ramsdale as well as bolstering the defence and midfield with deals for Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira, the Gunners' attack is likely to be the focus for Mikel Arteta and Edu despite bringing in Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos.

However, as it has been confirmed that the latter is effectively one for the future and may be used sparingly outside of U21s matches at least between now and January, Arsenal could do with another addition in the forward line to compete with Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe.

As a result, a number of players such as Cody Gakpo, Yeremy Pino and a rather surprise name in Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks amid talk of Edu targeting a 'mystery winger' to complete Arteta's squad.

Although, it would appear that Wolves' Pedro Neto is the chosen one. According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old has emerged as the Gunners' transfer priority before the closure of the transfer window, although the report also states that whilst discussions have been held over the past month, Bruno Lage's side do not plan to sell the winger.

With that said, it has also been reported that the West Midlands outfit have set an asking price of £50m for Neto and if Arsenal can successfully negotiate that fee down to £35m, not only will Edu seal a £15m masterstroke but the club won't have any issues naming the winger in their 25-man squad for the Premier League after the summer transfer window closes.

Rules state that no more than 17 overseas players can be named and this would have posed a problem to the north London outfit around three weeks ago as they were over the limit by two which meant Arteta was facing a repeat of a certain scenario involving Mesut Ozil and Sokratis.

But thanks to the departures of Nuno Tavares, Pablo Mari, Runar Alex Runarsson, Bernd Leno and Lucas Torreira either on loan or permanently since July 30, it leaves the Gunners with the following 14 overseas players: Matt Turner, Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Magalhaes, Cedric Soares, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Zinchenko, Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Elneny, Xhaka, Gabriel Jesus and Nicolas Pepe.

What this means is that Arsenal have enough space in their first-team squad to add Neto and two more overseas players regardless of any potential further sales as any move will not be dependent on Pepe who is likely to be returning to France to join OGC Nice on a season-long loan.
