'The First Purge' Will Bring Anarchy To Halloween Horror Nights

‘The First Purge’ maze is the latest addition to Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights for 2018.

Universal Studios Hollywood will bear witness to The First Purge with an all-new Halloween Horror Nights maze based on the latest installment in the franchise.

The recreation of the movie, currently in theaters, will see murder, mayhem and pandemonium coming alive as the annual Purge grips the country, suspending all police, fire and emergency services for 12 consecutive hours as law-abiding citizens are transformed into anarchists. Inspired by The First Purge, the movement that began as a simple experiment, this new Halloween Horror Nights maze aligns with the film in establishing the motives that launched the country into chaos.

The four-strong Purge film franchise has already taken $252.26 million at the domestic box office, unadjusted for inflation. Worldwide, that figure increases to $368.3 million.

Although the Purge series has been a staple part of Halloween Horror Nights since the first entry, 2013’s The Purge, this new maze at Universal Studios Hollywood will place guests at the heart of a controversial sociological experiment empowered by the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA). Guests will be at the mercy of luck and speed as they attempt to outsmart and outlive the anarchy.

The First Purge is the third maze to be confirmed for this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event in Los Angeles.

Stranger Things, inspired by the first season of Netflix’s smash hit show turned cultural phenomenon, was the first one out of the gate for the 2018 event. It will give guests the chance to brave the Upside Down and confront the supernatural. The show made worldwide stars out of the largely unknown cast and a cultural icon and household name out of Millie Bobby Brown and her iconic character, Eleven.

When the first season of Stranger Things was shot it reportedly cost $6 million an episode, rising to $8 million for season two. Work is currently underway on the third season.

The second maze to be announced for this year’s event at Universal Studios Hollywood was Trick ‘r Treat which is based on Legendary Pictures’ cult, and critically-acclaimed, Halloween classic. It will transport guests to Warren Valley, Ohio on Halloween night to celebrate the holiday’s dark traditions. Recreating some of the anthology’s most iconic scenes, it invites brave thrill-seekers to become entwined within the secrets of this sleepy suburban town.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood begins September 14, 2018.
