Jamie Carragher has insisted Liverpool's hierarchy were wrong to think the side could get through another campaign without midfield reinforcements.
Having suffered a slow start to the season, the Reds have amassed just 16 points in the Premier League so far and injuries have hampered any progress Jurgen Klopp's men have attempted to make. Suffering defeat at Nottingham Forest last time out, Liverpool .had three players in the starting line-up under the age of 21.
With some of Klopp's side now returning to full fitness ahead of this weekend's clash against Leeds United, Carragher has since spoken out on the team's poor run of form as of late, believing more could have been done to bring in further reinforcements earlier this year.

''If you actually look at the Liverpool midfield against Nottingham Forest it wasn't the best, there were young players who if you have young players, you want one of them to play alongside one with experience, you don't want them to all play together at once,'' he told CBS Sports Golazo.
''It was still a poor performance, a poor result but I felt Liverpool feel as though they can just get through another season in midfield because they missed out on Jude Bellingham and [Aurélien] Tchouaméni who went to Real Madrid.
''This season has proved that they should have gone into the market for just what we might call good players because at this moment the midfield is just not functioning, and when you have a problem defensively and going forward, the first place you look at is the midfield.''
