Larian was true to its word and released the first major Baldur’s Gate 3 patch on PC, with hundreds of fixes big and small, including some issues you probably didn’t even know existed. Larian said a second patch that targets performance issues will follow soon.
Some of the major highlights include fixes for game-breaking bugs, such as The Emperor leaving you stranded at a key point or you getting a “game over” message just for helping a downed ally. There’s a handful of tweaks to the story and dialogue logic, including more sensible dialogue when you’re romancing Minthara and a fix that keeps Halsin from joining if you recruit Minthara – which makes a lot of sense considering what you have to do to get her.
Karlach will kneel down to kiss and hug Halflings and other smaller characters, and you have an option during Gale’s first romance scene to envision a life that doesn’t involve falling in love with him or abusing or murdering him. Hooray! Dragonborn characters get to preserve their modesty thanks to a tweaked filter that actually covers them like it was originally meant to.
Speaking of nuanced relationships, you get a new option when you… meet… the Bugbear and Ogre in the Blighted Village, one where you don’t have to kill them, and the situation between Wyll and his father is a bit deeper now.
This is barely even a small part of what the patch fixes. The list of notes is genuinely gigantic, and while Larian marked some of the biggest spoilers with some of the best spoiler tags ever, there are still a few unmarked instances that hint at characters who turn up, locations, or activities you’ll complete in quests. Peruse with caution.
All these fixes and any other ones Larian makes in the near future will end up in the PS5 version when it launches on Sep. 6, 2023, and in the newly reconfirmed Xbox version, whenever it releases.
