- Florida entrepreneur Emily Ley has filed the first lawsuit against President Trump's tariffs.
- The lawsuit argues that the 20 per cent tariff on Chinese goods imposed using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 (IEEPA) is unlawful.
- Ley contends that IEEPA doesn't grant the president authority to impose tariffs and that Trump's stated reason for the tariffs (trade deficit reduction) contradicts the IEEPA's intended use for emergencies.
- The lawsuit seeks to have the tariffs declared unlawful and blocked.
- Ley's company, Simplified, sources products from China, and she argues that the tariffs will harm American businesses and consumers.
