A new Northern Ireland series following young farmers showing off their agriculture skills is set to hit our screens later this month.
The Fast and the Farmer-ish is the first commission as a result of the collaborative partnership with BBC Northern Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen.
Presented by Tom Pemberton, each episode of the series will pit teams and their tractors from across each corner of the UK against each other a number of entertaining agri-challenges that will test their driving abilities and prove who has what it takes to be the UK’s best tractor driving team.
The Fast and the Farmer-ish, from Derry -based production company Alleycats, has been commissioned for seven episodes on BBC 3 and will also be available on iPlayer.
Episode one, which airs on February 9, will follow the English league of the competition with the following episode focusing on the homegrown farming talent in Northern Ireland.
The NI episode description reads: "In the Northern Ireland heat of The Fast and the Farmer-ish, we meet The Bogmen – three best friends from the heart of Fermanagh who are up against The Determinators – David, Stephanie and Shannon.
"Hosted by full-time farmer and social media star Tom Pemberton, both teams go head-to-head in three spectacular, high-octane agricultural challenges.
"From testing their raw speed in a drag race and their artistic skills in an extra-terrestrial mowing challenge before being literally shocked by the toughest reversing manoeuvre they will ever encounter, these young farmers have never worked harder!
"When the dust settles, one team will take to the podium to celebrate, as the losers take to their tractor cabs and the drive of shame home."
Eddie Doyle, Head of Content Commissioning with BBC Northern Ireland, said: "Alleycats have a done an amazing job with The Fast And The Farmer-ish, showing how rural competitiveness can be converted into high-octane entertainment, that fits perfectly with BBC Three’s core brand.
"We’re delighted that our work with BBC Three and Northern Ireland Screen has led to this wonderful new series, and are equally excited about the upcoming set of pilots."
