The fantastic Cardiff City player ratings as Sory Kaba stuns with ridiculous goal and Joe Ralls impresses again

Ryan Allsop 8

Had one dicey clearance which fell to Isamila Sarr, but apart from that was solid enough. No blunders of which to speak. Made a brave stop to deny Keinan Davis in the second half and also a great late save to deny another Sarr effort.

Mark McGuinness 8

It's a tough forward line to deal with at Vicarage Road and, fair play, he stood up to the task well. Made a number of crucial interceptions, especially in the second half. Good to put that Sheffield United blip behind him.

Perry Ng 8

Lofted in a lovely ball for that ridiculous Kaba overhead kick. Was far more influential in advanced positions when Cardiff were on the front foot.

Cedric Kipre 8

Positionally was off it once or twice, but managed a few scrambled blocks and tackles, particularly from Keinan Davis and Hassane Kamara. Took his chance emphatically when he belted it past Daniel Bachmann for City's second.

Mahlon Romeo 8

Not easy against Joao Pedro but gave as good as he got and stuck to his task well. It just meant we didn't see him as advanced as we would usually see him.

Joe Ralls (c) 9

Set the tone in the middle of the park, well, after Cardiff's sluggish start, anyway, and was always an outlet on the left. Kept the ball well in midfield and tried to press his opposite numbers often. Even more influential after the break. Fantastic outing.

Ryan Wintle 8

One of his best displays for some time. His half-volleyed effort set up Kipre's goal while at the other end he was sliding in and stopping crosses.

Andy Rinomhota 8

Played a huge role in City's first when he turned and slid in goalscorer Etete. Another who put in one of his better displays of late. A good outing.

Callum O'Dowda 8

That tussle between him and Ismaila Sarr was fascinating, but O'Dowda can hold his head up high for his part in the battle. Started to free-up his legs as City gained confidence, which was great to see.

Sory Kaba 9 (star man)

Well, what can you say? Scored City's goal of the season with a quite frankly ridiculous overhead kick. Also held play up really well, as per usual, and occupied the defenders' head space.

Kion Etete 8

Such an odd player to work out. He does some strange things with his feet and the ball bounces off him in weird ways, but it makes him a real nuisance for defenders. He took his goal fantastically, skinning a defender before slotting into the corner. Top display.

Subs

Romaine Sawyers (Rinomhota 68) 7 - Added a real calm and assuredness just when City needed it. Barking orders and telling the midfielders where to look and pass. Did not go unnoticed.

Connor Wickham (Etete 68) 7 - Also added something when he came on. Was a good focal point and always wanted the ball. Nice cameo from the striker.

Mark Harris (Kaba 81) NA
