Football ownership group 'The Fans Together' have this afternoon issued a brief statement regarding their wishes to invest into Sunderland AFC. The collective claims they are 'in discussion' to purchase both Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven's remaining stakes in the club.
The cryptocurrency group are said to be keen on purchasing Donald and Methven's remaining 39 per cent stake in the club which they have held since the summer of 2018. Citing a previous successful track record with Greek Super League 2 side FC Episkopi, Sky Sports Tom White relayed the news via social media.
After selling 41 per cent of the club to Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, Sunderland’s 24-year-old chairman, both Donald and Methven announced they would took a back seat in a bid to try and offload their own stakes. Juan Sartori, the Uruguayan businessman and politician, continues to retain 20 per cent.

Fellow news platform The Athletic has learnt that the crypto group was in fact present for the Black Cats 2-0 Wembley win against Wycombe just weeks ago, which ensured promotion back to the second tier after a lengthy four years hiatus.
White's post, which has since been shared via Twitter from a spokesperson from 'The Fans Together' began by stating: “The Fans Together, an organisation dedicated to bringing large scale widespread fan ownership to reality, confirms it is in discussions with Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven to acquire all of their 39 per cent stake in Sunderland AFC.
“In Sunderland, we have deliberately chosen a club with a large fan base that is in a sound financial state and we are keen to work with existing shareholders to continue to build on the momentum achieved through the recent promotion to the Championship.
“While discussions are ongoing, we are unable to provide further information at this moment in time, however we will update fans and wider stakeholders as soon as possible.”
