Sherlock star Amanda Abbington has shared an update on partner, Welsh escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, after he was left paralysed in October 2021. The actress, who stars in brand new ITV show, The Family pile, appeared on Lorraine this morning, Tuesday, January 17, saying Goodwin was 'her hero'.
Gushing about her partner, Amanda said: "He's amazing, I love him to bits and he's going from strength to strength. He's got loads of things going on and he's delightful."
She added that she sometimes "forgets" about her partner's paralysis. "I forget that he's in a wheelchair. He's fiercely independent, very strong and he is genuinely my hero because nothing phases him. I don't know what I'd do without him."

Jonathan left hospital in February 2022, four months after his life-changing injury and now uses a wheelchair after the incident saw him fall from 30ft. He was performing a stunt where he was trying to escape a straitjacket whilst hanging upside down in the air suspended between two cars.
During a previous interview with Lorraine, Jonathan said: "It sounds very dramatic sitting here, but I did nearly die... I saved my life because I fell upside down but I didn't hit my head because I tucked."
Amanda and Jonathan became engaged within 30 minutes of meeting on their first date in Vienna back in 2021. The couple had been friends on social media for more than a decade. She had previously in a relationship with Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman from 2000-2016 and the former couple have two children together.
The actress will next star in comedy series, The Family Pile, which premieres on ITV1 at 9.30pm on Tuesday, January 17. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
