The Fall hailed from Prestwich and were one of the most influential bands of the late 70s and 80s in Manchester's bustling music scene. And frontman Mark E. Smith was the one constant throughout the band's life.

Items up for auction include a shirt owned by Smith for the 'Ghost in my house' music video, a programme for 'Curious Orange' with handwritten notes from Smith, and a handwritten set-list for a gig. The shirts worn on stage and on video are estimated to make up to £1,500 at auction.

The items have been consigned to Newton-le-Willows based Omega Auctions directly from Smith's family, offering 'unique' insight into his and the band's creative life. Smith and The Fall released a whopping 32 albums in a career which lasted until 2017, with Smith dying from illness in 2018 aged just 60.

Dan Hampson, auction manager at Omega Auctions Ltd, said: "Mark E. Smith is one of the most iconic figures in Manchester’s famous music history. His unwavering belief in himself and the Fall project and his legendary intolerance of anyone (i.e. many former bandmembers) who didn’t get with the programme made him a legend in his own time, and he’s very much missed by those who appreciated his uniqueness.

"These artefacts were supplied directly by Mark’s family and are an amazing insight into the band and into Mark’s creative process. The annotated ‘Curious Orange’ programme is particularly interesting as are the shirts, one worn onstage and another in a music video, which show how in timeless Mancunian fashion, Mark cared about how he looked and what he wore. We’re excited to see what the items fetch when they come up for sale on the June 28."
