The expected Bristol Rovers team to face Bradford City: Could Trevor Clarke make a rare start?

Bristol Rovers' ability to muster a rousing response will be tested once again when Bradford City visit the Mem on Saturday. The Gas have responded to defeats before and after defeat at Carlisle United dented their promotion hopes, Joey Barton's side have to do it again.

In their path on Saturday are Mark Hughes' Bantams, a side that has underwhelmed in League Two this season, but they have match-winners and individuals are fighting for their futures at Valley Parade.

Here is how Rovers could line up at the Mem on Saturday...

What XI would you select to take on Bradford? Have your say in the comments section below...

Goalkeeper and defence

James Belshaw is certain to start in goal after another impressive display for the Gas at Carlisle, with Jed Ward likely to be backing him up on the bench with Anssi Jaakkola dealing with an ankle injury.

The pairing in the heart of defence will be unchanged, with Connor Taylor and James Connolly sure to start. Luca Hoole, too, will be in the XI and confident of bouncing back after a costly defensive lapse in the defeat at Brunton Park.

There could be a change on the left side, though. Rovers lost an attacking edge with the in-form Harry Anderson moved to full-back last time out. He could be better used further forward, with Barton likely to want to play on the front foot at home.

Nick Anderton is set to miss out again with a muscle problem, but Josh Grant is making a timely return to contention. After more than a dozen games out, though, it is a risk to throw him in from the start. Trevor Clarke, therefore, could be in line for a rare start after making the bench for the past six games. He has played just four times in League Two in an injury-hit season.

Cian Harries will make the bench to provide cover, but Alfie Kilgour and Junior Brown are ruled out.

Midfield

Rovers played with a pair of holding midfielders at Carlisle, but ought to revert to one on home turf on Saturday. That should mean club captain Paul Coutts retains his place, with Glenn Whelan dropping to the bench. He could be a handy option for Barton later in the game.

In front of Coutts, four players could be given freedom to attack. Antony Evans continued absence due to a calf injury is a blow, but the Gas have more than enough quality in Sam Nicholson, Elliot Anderson, Sam Finley and Harry Anderson to get the job done on Saturday.

Jon Nolan, Luke Thomas and Sion Spence could make the bench, but Alex Rodman is set to miss another game.

Attack

Aaron Collins was short of service and influence at Carlisle, but he will continue as Rovers' leading man on Saturday.

Leon Clarke, Ryan Loft and Harvey Saunders are good options for Barton to choose from during the game if the Gas are in need of an impact.

Rovers (4-1-4-1): Belshaw; Hoole, Taylor, Connolly, T Clarke; Coutts (c); Nicholson, E Anderson, Finley, H Anderson; Collins.
