A distillery, magical village and the highly anticipated rail line are among the exciting projects set to open in Northumberland.

The Northumberland Line is on track for a opening towards the end of the year, while visitors to Alnwick Gardens can enjoy the magical village of Lilidorei from the spring.

Wooler is set to get a new distillery, while retailers will move into units being built as part of the Blyth South Beach development.

Here we look at the exciting developments set to open in 2023.

Work to build six stations that will be part of the Northumberland Line is well under way.

Buildings have been demolished as work progresses on the Northumberland Line rail track.

Six new stations will be built and 18 miles of track up upgraded after the Government signed off on plans earlier last year.

The Northumberland Line will provide a half-hourly service between Newcastle and Ashington from December next year - stopping at Bedlington, Bebside, Newsham, Seaton Delaval and Northumberland Park.

Lilidorei, Alnwick Gardens

How Lilidorei could look in the winter (Monstrum)

Lilidorei, a £15 million project which is the brainchild of the Duchess of Northumberland, is set to open in the spring at the Alnwick Garden.

Construction of the magical village, themed around dwarves, elves and goblins, is well underway with the first "house" appearing on the site back in July.

Set in a forest clearing, the village is packed with wooden houses designed to be home to different magical and mythical creatures, connected by climbing walls, zip lines, and giant slides.

There will also be Christmas trees lit up on top of each wooden house, with the Gingerbread-esque houses aiming to give a festive feel all year round. The project has been in the Duchess of Northumberland's imagination for the past 12 years and she says she is "delighted" to bring her creative vision to life.

Blyth South Beach

Work is under way on the second phase of a retail and leisure development that will change the face of Blyth seafront.

Ambitious plans to develop Blyth's South Beach will transform derelict buildings and land on the Links Road into a retail and leisure space.

Work on the first phase of the £4.5m scheme started earlier this year and is due for completion by Christmas.

The Co-op has been confirmed for the site's flagship store, with Greggs and Shorelocks hair and beauty salon also occupying two of the six smaller units.

An occupier for the first floor restaurant that will have stunning sea views is also to be confirmed.

Ad Gefrin, Wooler

The £10.4m visitor experience and distillery and one of the biggest ever investments in rural north Northumberland.

Ad Gefrin, which is due to open in February 2023, has already been named one of the world's most anticipated museum openings and it is hoped will give the town of Wooler a "significant" tourism boost.

The museum will showcase the court of the Northumbrian kings and queens who drew people from all over the world to visit their summer palace in nearby Yeavering.
