The exact date Poundland will open its largest store in Scotland

Budget giant Poundland is opening its largest Scottish store next month.

The retailer announced an official opening date for the new outlet on Tuesday, which will be located on Crown Street in Glasgow and is set to open on March 11. Spanning a whopping 18,380 ft - three times the size of an average Poundland - the super-store will boast a clothing section with dressing rooms and a selection of home furnishings and accessories.

As well as new products, the new branch will offer a wider variety across existing categories like food and drink, pet care, entertainment and stationary. The new store will bring the number of Scottish Poundland locations to 61.

Poundland director of retail, Darren Kay, said: “We’re looking forward to opening the largest Poundland in Scotland. In fact, some may even say it’s a ‘beezer’ of a store!

“The size of the store means there’s more of our amazing value under one roof across more categories than ever before. The first four destination stores of this scale we’ve opened in England have wowed customers and we’re thrilled it’s now time to bring our best offer to Glasgow."

In terms of design, the store will be "bright and airy with a modern and contemporary feel" for easy shopping including extra wide aisles, trolleys, and supermarket-style belted checkouts. Rather than keep all stock on high shelves, typically seen in other Poundland shops, this branch will store surplus products in a warehouse.

Around a third of the store will be dedicated to UK brand Pep clothing and home, offering a range of womenswear, menswear and kidswear. The Pep Home department will stock the latest 2023 ranges, including new kitchen storage options, bathroom accessories and soft furnishings.

Pep Home’s range of faux plants will be on sale, but for those who want the real thing, there will be a selection of house plants to enhance the home.

The new location will join the growing number of UK stores – set to pass 550 this year – to offer chilled and frozen food and it will be one of around 300 stores across the country getting fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as a selection of beers, wines and spirits.

It will offer a range of small domestic appliances and customers will be able to choose from a broad selection of small domestic appliances from Russell Hobbs, such as toasters, kettles and irons.

The wider than usual range of health and beauty products will include Poundland’s own Make Up Gallery, #6 skincare and brands such as Rimmel and Essence.
