The euphoric, beer-soaking moment that saw Cardiff win Welsh Varsity 2023

Cardiff University won Welsh Varsity and capped off the success with an incredible 19-15 men's rugby victory at the Arms Park.

More than 10,000 students descended upon the Welsh capital sporting their respective Swansea green and Cardiff red jerseys. The rugby was the icing on the cake of a packed day of Varsity action.

After the women kicked things off at Cardiff Arms Park with a ruthless 41-12 win over Swansea, the men's fixture took 30 minutes for the first points to be scored, with the lead ultimately changing hands three times and going down to the wire.

Cardiff got the first try, with a driving maul resulting in a Greg Ramage score for Cardiff. Their skipper Luke Pollock crossed after the interval, setting the tone for the final 40.

Swansea forged a fightback inside five minutes, scoring two tries through Cai Davies and Daf Land. Scarlets rising star Harri Williams slotted a penalty to take Swansea into a 12-15 lead, but there was still a twist in the tale.

Despite Swansea initially controlling the Cardiff rolling maul, Pollock crossed for a second time and took Cardiff back into the lead in what would be the match-winning score.

S4C captured the epic moment the full-time whistle blew, with players in absolute ecstasy and the stands descending into utter pandemonium. With pints flying and a chorus of cheers, it was a fantastic moment.

Overall, Cardiff came out on top, with a score of 34-9 from the competition's entire fixtures.
