Katie McCabe will help to highlight a number of social causes at this summer’s World Cup - after FIFA turned to players and the UN to help design a series of armbands for the tournament.
All 32 captains can either pick one campaign that’s close to their hearts, or else wear a different armband that corresponds to each matchday theme.
The topics chosen are Unite for Inclusion, Unite for Indigenous Peoples, Unite for Gender Equality, Unite for Peace, Unite for Education for All, Unite for Zero Hunger, Unite for Ending Violence Against Women’ and ‘Football is Joy, Peace, Love, Hope & Passion’.
FIFA consulted with UN Human Rights, UN Women, UNHCR, UNESCO, the UN World Food Programme, UN Women and the World Health Organization (WHO).
FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “(Football) can shine the spotlight on very important causes in our society.”
