The Edinburgh restaurant run by an actor that's the best place in city to get Greek delicacy

A popular restaurant recently opened by a Greek actor in the New Town is making waves with its authentic dishes.

Konstantinos Karvelis worked as an actor for around 15 years in Greece before moving to Edinburgh in February 2018 to realise a dream of owning his own eatery.

His restaurant Kuzina, which in English means Kitchen, is located on Howe Street and has been wowing foodies with its signature dish, the Guouvetsi, proving popular with fans of Greek food.

Giouvetsi is traditionally made with lamb and pasta, either Kritharki (orzo) or Hilopites, and tomato sauce. Historically it was served in clay pots, however today it is served in a glazed terracotta vessel.

Finally, the dish is flavoured with wild fennel, which Konstantinos says compliments the flavours and adds delightful savoury notes.

And it's one of the dishes Konstantinos Sakellariou, the head chef, wanted to create for the menu, which features and ‘authentic taste of Greece with a modern twist’.

He explained that it is a dish that every Greek is "intimately familiar with" and that he isn't surprised that people are coming to the restaurant just to try it out.

The talented chef, who has worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants, five-star hotels and private members clubs, added: "Most of us have enjoyed this dish at Sunday lunch with our families. It is a real privilege to serve it to our clients and I am delighted that my personal favourite is proving so popular."

Owner Konstantinos stated that with Kuzina, he wanted to create a menu to reflect an "authentic taste of Greece", explaining that they use some of the "most traditional and well-loved Greek ingredients".

He describes Kuzina as a "celebration of time-honoured recipes masterfully executed with artisanal dedication offering a unique and tantalising experience."
