A picturesque castle with stunning views out across the Firth of Forth has just been named one of the UK's top hidden gems to visit in 2023.
Lauriston Castle, which lies close to both Davidson’s Mains and Cramond and is just under 25 minutes drive from the city centre, has been hailed as one of the little-known gems we should all be celebrating.
With more and more people embracing staycations, the travel experts at Coast & Country Hotel Collection have identified the best-kept secrets around Britain - for holiday goers who are looking to explore somewhere new.
Their research, which scores various locations based on social and search data, reveals the top off-the-beaten-track gems in Scotland and found that the stunning 400-year-old castle near Edinburgh was one of Scotland's best.

It ranked alongside visiting Loch Awe and Dolphin spotting at Chanonry Point in the top 5 for Scotland.
The castle is known for its panoramic views as well as the fact you can get award-winning cakes and hot drinks from top Edinburgh bakery Mimi's Bake House.
It also hosts woodland walks, an award-winning Japanese garden, and allows guests to step back in time and experience what life was like in an Edinburgh middle-class home at the beginning of the 20th century.
Portfolio Managing Director at Coast & Country Hotel Collection, Paul FitzGerald, said: “Thanks to TikTok and Instagram, we continue to see searches for hidden gems rise as many explore lesser-known destinations around the UK. And it’s a trend that we expect to continue. These locations arguably rival some of those you’d expect to find abroad and in far-flung places. However, knowing it’s easier to get to via car, train, or boat makes it more appealing.
“With thousands to choose from, not only do travellers have the opportunity to escape the crowds, but also to discover some truly incredible places that you might not have otherwise found, full of history and stunning scenery.”
