The 'dream' Allan Saint-Maximin gesture which Mehrdad Ghodoussi labelled 'fantastic'

Allan Saint-Maximin made a young Newcastle United superfan's dreams come true with a 'fantastic' gesture.

Young carer Alfie Blackwell has cultivated a love for the Magpies despite living in Wrexham, North Wales.

Action for Children, a charity which provide practical and emotional support for young people like Alfie, wrote to Saint-Maximin and shared the 12-year-old's story.

Newcastle's number 10 - who quickly endeared himself to the fanbase with a number of kind community gestures - donated four tickets and even surprised the young fan with a meeting after Sunday's victory against Aston Villa.

Alfie made the 400-mile round trip to Newcastle with his uncle and charity staff, and was left stunned with the matchday tickets and the chance to meet his idol.

The young carer said: “I thought we were just going to Newcastle for the day. I wanted to see the stadium and club shop so when Uncle Tom told me we had tickets for the match, it was such a surprise! I was so happy and when we won 1-0, it made it even better.

“I couldn’t believe it when Saint-Maximin surprised me and wanted a picture with me. He even gave me his signed match shirt. It was the best day of my life!”

Saint-Maximin posed for a picture with the youngster and gave a number of club goodies including a signed shirt in a gesture labelled 'fantastic' by Newcastle co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

Catherine Schroeter, Regional Fundraising Manager at Action for Children, said: “Young carers like Alfie take on such adult responsibilities and can often miss out on moments like attending a football match.

“We are incredibly grateful to Allan for donating the tickets and taking the time to meet with Alfie after the match. It was truly an amazing day for Alfie and he said it felt like the whole day had been a dream!”
