The dramatic thunder and lightning storm captured over Cardiff

A video captured the dramatic moment thunder and lightning storms battered Cardiff on Wednesday evening.

The hammering came after the Met Office warned that parts of Wales could expect to see torrential rain and thunderstorms with more than a month's worth of rain falling in just an hour.

And, as predicted, at 6.30pm on Wednesday many areas of south Wales saw thunder storms hit with people in areas such as Cardiff, Newport, Pontypridd and the Rhondda all hit by storms.

This video, captured by WalesOnline photographer Rob Browne, shows how the storms hit the Welsh capital on Wednesday evening by lighting up the sky with dramatic strikes.

The same storm caused serious flooding in the Rhondda, in the same areas hit by Storm Dennis.

Wales is also expected to bear the brunt of a band of thunderstorms that will cross the UK on Thursday, June 18, bringing heavy rain and even hail.

Forecasters say there would be between 20 and 30mm of rain in just an hour in places, with some areas seeing what you would expect to see in a month over the course of a couple of hours.
