Notts County's new loan signing Harry Arter says the disappointment of not being involved in the build-up to matchday was one of the main reasons he looked for a loan away from Nottingham Forest.
The 32-year-old midfielder has fallen considerably down the pecking order at the City Ground since his September 2020 transfer from Bournemouth. Arter initially joined Forest under Chris Hughton but has found playing time limited even since the arrival of Steve Cooper last year.
He joined League One outfit Charlton Athletic in the summer but had that loan spell cut short due to injuries and limited opportunities. Now, he has joined National League side Notts County, three divisions below Forest, on loan until May.

Asked whether missing the build-up to matches has been difficult to adapt to, Arter told the club's social media feeds: "I'll be totally honest. It has been the most difficult part of the past three or four months. It's been difficult going in knowing there is no game at the end of the week.
"Andy Reid, the under-23s manager, has been great with me. He's managed me as well as he could. I think with the season coming to an end to an extent, I feel like I really want to go out with a bang. I want to get something from a season which has been disappointing for me.
"There are no two ways about it. It's been as disappointing this season as it was last season. That's disappointing because I'm not getting any younger. Football careers are so short, life in itself can be short. I want to enjoy everything I can to the max.
"I'm coming here thinking I can help the team and I can definitely have an enjoyment to it too."

He added: "[This loan came about] through friends in the game who know Ian [Burchnall]. I speak to family and friends and they know what I find enjoyable when it comes to football, people who know Ian suggested we had a chat to see if we had the same ideas. As soon as I met him it was quite clear his ideas and philosophies matched how I look at the game.
"The lower you go down, in no disrespect to County, the more difficult it is to find that. I had accepted that it may not be a case of going somewhere where I could enjoy myself, but I had a chat with Ian and it became a challenge that I look forward to doing.
"Forest have been really good in allowing and Notts have been good too. Hopefully it goes as well as I think it will in my head."
