There are so many brilliant places to eat in the Pontcanna area of Cardiff that you will need plenty of time to work your way through them all.
We've seen some great new additions to the area too, recently, as well as the old favourites.
From fresh sausage rolls and a quick espresso to indulgent brunches, cocktails and relaxed fine dining - the coolest suburb has it all.

Here's the only guide - in no particular order - you need to get you through the lot.
1. Thomas by Tom Simmons

Combining classic French and inventive Welsh flavours and ingredients, Pembrokeshire-born Tom has brought some excellent fine dining in a relaxing, stylish atmosphere.
The fish and chips is an unmissable dish, as are the mushroom croquettes.

2. Alex Gooch Bakery
The freshly-made wares of artisan baker Alex Gooch have made their way to Cardiff from Hay-on-Wye for Pontcanna locals who love a fresh croissant or cronut - and don't forget that sourdough.

3. Milkwood

A reliable and delicious bistro for many years, Milkwood is now reborn as a wonderful place for brunch or lunch - with specials honed during their pandemic takeaway months like their chicken burger - and it's open every day.
And in the evenings on weekends you'll find the best pop-ups Wales will have to offer, with Lee Skeet currently setting up shop.

4. Al Ponte Deli
If you fancy a quick cheeseboard and espresso while grabbing some essentials like fresh eggs, great wine and homemade sausages, faggots and even caviar-flavoured crisps, then pop into Al Ponte.
Their espresso is so good we want to mention it twice.

5. Bant a la Cart

A deli serving food, beer and wine from around Wales (and further afield). They make everything from Welsh cakes and tarts to warming chicken and chorizo stew and these amazing-looking raspberry cheesecakes.

6. Ground
A sister venue to Thomas and just up the street, Ground Bakery supplies the restaurant with its bread which you can buy alongside pastries, sandwiches and really good coffee.
Sit in for brunch, too - if you're lucky to get a table.

7. Brød

This Danish bakery has been a huge hit since it opened in a former wine merchants. It uses traditional Danish methods of hand-crafting its breads, pastries and cakes. Try the Kanel Snegl (that's soft dough with a cinnamon filling and iced topping).

8. Bully's

This cosy restaurant with a great atmosphere is known for its exceptionally good food and wine. Expect the likes of seared scallops on the starters menu and fillet of smoked cod with roasted fennel and samphire on the mains.

9. Stonebaked at Brava/Cafe Brava

Get here early on weekends if you want a table for breakfast and brunch, when you'll find full cooked breakfasts, corned beef hash, pancakes and eggs benedict on the menu.
They haven't quite reopened in the evening yet, but when they do, we hope their pizzas will return.

10 . Canna Deli
A little gem tucked behind the Co-Op and houses, this cosy deli does an excellent Welsh rarebit. Its coffee is great, too and you won't be disappointed if you stop here for brunch.

11. Cegin Oriel
Serving jam-packed breakfast rolls and carvery rolls, too, Cegin Oriel is related to the Oriel Jones butchers and has a wicked selection of homemade ready-to-eat at home meals like faggots or pies and mash.

12. Cinnamon Tree

Though the likes of Mint and Mustard took Indian cooking in Cardiff to the next level, Cinnamon Tree still has a good reputation for delicious Indian food, with dishes like Chicken Pakora and lobster cooked with mustard seed.

13. The Conway

Nestled on a leafy street corner and surrounded by houses, The Conway does pub food to a very high standard. The blackboard menu on the wall changes regularly, and could include a tempura soft shell crab burger or honey-glazed duck carpaccio. There's also a decent selection of ales.

14. The Cricketers
Set in a classic Victorian townhouse, The Cricketers does great pub food and has an excellent range of beers from the Evan Evans brewery.
On the menu you'll find the classic Cricketers' burger and French trim chicken breast to fish and chips.

15. Heaney's
Heaney's is run by The Great British Menu contestant Tommy Heaney.
He's brought his smashing culinary skills and beautiful local produce to the city as well as making a quality dining space, utterly chilled out.

16. Hot Pantry Bakery

Started more than 30 years ago, this bakery serves up a wide range of pastries and cakes - and their sausage rolls come highly recommended.
They also do pizzas on a Friday evening.

17. Kemis

Kemis' delicious range of salads are well worth the visit. Grab a quiche or some Glamorgan sausages and try a selection of all the packed-with-flavour salads that you won't find many other places. The fabulous owner, Kemi, adds a buzz to the place if she's around, as does son Patrick and the whole team.
Try their brekkie burrito, too.

18. La Cuina

Delicious authentic Catalan food in this lively and down-to-earth little place just off Cowbridge Road East, so just pips into Pontcanna we reckon. There are tapas and a la carte menus, on which you'll find the likes of octopus with paprika or a phenomenal dish of mountain lamb for two.

19. Lazy Leek

A delicious, vegan-friendly pop-up with a permanent location where it serves burgers, cakes and the most heart-emoji-eyes-looking loaded fries ever (double-check when they are on the menu, though!)

20. Pipes Courtyard
With regular pop-up guests, foodie events and, of course, their brilliant beer, Pipes is a must for any chill out day or evening.
They now have mulled cider going into the winter and they also have gluten free beers, too.

21. Pontcanna Inn
Formerly The Cayo Arms, this pub/hotel/restaurant has had a complete makeover. The menu looks as good as their beer garden, which is somewhere that is packed out already on sunny days.
Go here for quick pub lunches or a lively pint.

22. The Smoke House
Come hungry to this brilliant American barbecue joint. Its phenomenal beef brisket and pulled pork quickly gained a reputation across the city so booking well in advance is essential.

An eco-store and coffee shop serves organic brunches and naughty hot chocolates (when you want them!).

24. Stefano's

Stefano's Ristorante Italiano is a Pontcanna institution after well over a decade on Romilly Crescent.
Starters include mussels with chilli, garlic and white wine, which you could follow with one of their many pasta dishes or a main like veal escalope cooked with Luganica sausage. They also offer takeaway and small Ciccheti - Venetian small plates.

25. Uisce
The site of Heaney's (see above) introductory pop-up, Uisce is now a coffee and wine bar serving small plates like oysters and charcuterie.
