The deadline to submit a nomination to become a local councillor is this week.
Anyone who wishes to become a councillor for South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) has until 4pm on Wednesday (March 30) to submit their nomination.
Returning Officer Cleland Sneddon said: “Councillors who are elected won’t just get to speak up for their own communities and help make the big decisions for the area – they will also benefit from a unique experience.
“I would encourage anyone who is interested in standing for election, and hasn’t already done so, to submit the necessary paperwork as soon as possible.
“Candidates are encouraged from all walks of life. South Lanarkshire has a proud record of councillors who come from a wide range of backgrounds, and diversity is encouraged and supported.”
The council elections will take place on Thursday, May 5, where 64 councillors will be chosen to sit on SLC.
COSLA, who is the national association of Scottish councils, recently ran a campaign to encourage people to consider standing for elections.
The ‘Why You?’ Campaign highlighted the successes of COSLA’s Barriers to Elected Office Special Interest Group and featured personal experiences of councillors who have been elected as well as helpful information to help you stand in local elections.
