The day-by-day forecast as Wales to be battered with wind and rain

Wales will be battered by high winds and heavy rain again this week as more stormy weather makes its way across the Atlantic. The week will start mainly dry with sunny spells on Monday, but a wind warning has been issued for later in the week.

BBC weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood says there could be gusts of 60mph, with a yellow warning issued for Wednesday. More details are here.

The Met Office forecast for Wales is showing that the winds will actually start to pick up on Monday afternoon and evening.

On Tuesday, the forecast says that will be "windy in the morning as a band or rain arrives", with that rain being heavy in places.

There will be further outbreaks of rain developing during the afternoon, and it will be heaviest over some of the hills. It will be staying mild, with temperatures around 18°C.

The outlook for Wales for Wednesday to Friday says: "Very windy with coastal gales on Wednesday . Heavy rain pushes quickly south, with sunny spells and blustery showers following.

"Sunshine and blustery showers on Thursday and Friday too. Generally mild."

Welsh weather forecaster Derek Brockway says: "A mixed week ahead with some wind and rain clearing to sunshine and showers but dry on Monday with a high of 18°C."

Into the weekend, Saturday will stay dry for most, but there will be more rain on Sunday.

The wet and windy forecast comes on the heels of a stormy week for the country, which meteorologists attributed to the knock-on effects from Hurricane Ian across the pond.

The Met Office long-range forecast for the UK from Friday, October 7, to Sunday, October 16, says: " This period will see generally clear or sunny spells and showers for many throughout. Some areas in the southeast may remain dry, while the heaviest and most frequent showers persist in the west and northwest.

"Confidence remains low, with the possibility of high pressure building across the UK at some point through this period. However, frontal systems are likely to continue to bring periods of rain.

"We can expect generally breezy conditions throughout, with some brisker winds in the north and coastal gales possible, most likely to be earlier in this period. Temperatures will be close to normal throughout, but slightly below in northern areas, and trending slightly above in the south for a time. There is the possibility for some chilly nights, with potential mist or fog."
