Parents who receive child benefit payments could get their cash earlier than usual over the festive period.
There are changes in payment dates this year because of the timing of the festive Bank Holidays. This time, Christmas Day falls on a Sunday, as does New Year’s Day.
As a result, the Christmas Day Bank Holiday is on December 27 - with the Boxing Day Bank Holiday on December 26 as usual - and the New Year’s Bank Holiday is moved to January 2. For parents expecting child benefit on these days, their payments will be brought forward - meaning they get their money earlier, but have longer to wait until the next payment, reports Birmingham Live.

Here’s when child benefit payments will be made over Christmas and New Year 2022-23.
When will I get my child benefit over Christmas?
The Government’s website states that all claimants expecting DWP benefits payments on December 26 and 27 will receive them on December 23, the preceding Friday, instead. This includes child benefit payments and Guardian’s Allowance.
In addition, people who would normally receive child benefits on January 2 will instead get them on Friday, December 30. This is because the New Year Bank Holiday falls on January 2, which is why no DWP payments will be issued on this date.
Child benefit is usually paid to claimants every four weeks, either on a Monday or a Tuesday. Some single parents get child benefit paid weekly, however, if they or their partner are in receipt of certain benefits.
When child benefit payments are due on a Bank Holiday, they are usually paid early. If you do not receive your payment on the day it is scheduled, the DWP advises you to contact the office that pays your benefit to inform them.
