The D-backs got roasted for ill-advised tweet about Phillies fans buying NLCS seats to leave empty

It hasn’t been a good showing for the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League Championship Series.

On Thursday, the Diamondbacks arrived back home at Chase Field down in the NLCS 2-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies. And it hasn’t been a particularly close series either, as the Diamondbacks looked rattled in front of the wild crowds at Citizens Bank Park.

One of the big stories headed into Game 3 of the NLCS is that Phillies fans had been doing a bit of trolling, as they often do. Before Thursday’s game, Phillies fans were buying cheap seats — as low as $15! — in the upper decks at Chase Field so Diamondbacks fans couldn’t use them, hoping to fill a bunch of the stadium with empty seats.

So, when 2 p.m. in Arizona rolled around, Chase Field was looking a bit … sparse. Of course, a lot of that has to do with Game 3 being an early afternoon game during the work week — and the stadium did fill out later — but people noticed the stark difference between Chase Field and Citizens Bank Park.

However, the Diamondbacks Twitter account decided to speak up in an attempt to clap back at Phillies fans and, well, it didn’t go so well.

That is definitely not the come back the Diamonds think it is. Again, a lot of the Diamondbacks attendance issues come down to the game being an early afternoon start, but it’s clear there is not nearly as much interest in playoff baseball in Arizona as there is in Philadelphia.

MLB fans took the opportunity to roast the Diamondbacks for their ill-advised attempt at a clap back at Phillies fans.
