The curious case of Scotland's Oliver Burke: Shoved back into action by his own coach

Forgotten Scotland international Oliver Burke was involved in a bizarre incident in Germany after Werder Bremen boss Ole Werner shoved him during a game.

The former Celtic loan forward is still in the Bundesliga, after returning from unsuccessful loan spells at Birmingham City and Millwall.

He previously cost £28million in combined fees when RB Leipzig and West Brom signed him.

Burke, 27, has played 28 times for Werder Bremen... but remarkably has come off the bench on 27 of those games and has started just one Bundesliga game in two-and-a-half years at the club.

And he was at the centre of an unusual moment when he was a sub again in their match against Heidenheim.

Werder boss Werner ran across to shove him back onto the pitch after he had run off it following a tackle.

"I just wanted to get Oli back into the game as quickly as possible and maybe showed too much enthusiasm for it," Werner said.

"With his dynamism and instinct to get into situations, he is particularly valuable in these late phases of the game as a sub.

"Players get tired and Oli can go on and run at them and that's why we have continually used him as a sub."
