The Crown Series 5 Netflix release date and time new episodes go live in UK

The Crown returns to Netflix in November for a fifth series and the first to be released since the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Imelda Staunton stars as the late Queen in the upcoming series, which is set in the 1990s. That decade saw the collapse of Prince Charles' marriage with Princess Diana, which presented a constitutional crisis for the monarchy, as well as political changes across the world, including the end of the Soviet Union and the transfer of Hong Kong from Britain to China.

Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki takes the role of Princess Diana for the new series, with Bafta winner Dominic West playing Charles.

The fifth series will see a new Prime Minister too, John Major, played by Trainspotting actor Jonny Lee Miller.

It's already proven controversial, with both Mr Major and actress Dame Judi Dench successfully calling for The Crown to add a disclaimer to its trailer to remind viewers around the world that the series is "fictional dramatisation" inspired by real events.

And the series will feature a recreation of the infamous Panorama episode where Martin Bashir interviewed Princess Diana, an interview Prince William has said he thinks should never be shown again.

A spokeswoman for Netflix told Press Association: “Season five of The Crown will dramatise events surrounding the Panorama interview, given the pivotal part it played during the time period the series covers.

“It will reflect what we now know about how the interview was obtained and how Diana was treated.

“The interview is not recreated in full.”

What time Series 5 of the Crown will be on Netflix in the UK

In Britain, the Crown will be available to watch on Netflix from 8am GMT on November 9.

Will all episodes of the Crown Series 5 be available at the same time?

Netflix is set to release the Crown's new series all at once, its information page suggests, as it says "Season 5 releasing in the United Kingdom on November 9, 2022 at 8am GMT". That implies every episode will be put online at the same time instead a split release as they did for Better Call Saul and Snowpiercer.

As with each previous season of The Crown, series 5 is expected to feature 10 episodes

Is Series 5 the last season?

No. Netflix has commissioned at least another series of The Crown after season five. There will definitely be the sixth season and possibly more.
