The Crown season 4 release date, cast, plot, trailer, for Netflix royal drama

The struggles of the House of Windsor are still to continue on Netflix.

The Crown will return for a fourth season following the finale of season 3 which saw the Queen celebrate her Silver Jubilee in 1977.

However, there is much more drama to come as The Queen is set to welcome a new prime minister that she will work alongside for the next decade: Margaret Thatcher.

Meanwhile, the personal lives of her children will begin to take a major focus as Prince Charles weds Princess Diana - but how long can he resist his feelings for Camilla Parker Bowles ?

Here is when to expect The Crown season 4 on Netflix.

The Crown season 4 release date

The Crown season 4 will be released on Netflix worldwide in late 2020.

It is expected to comprise of 10 episodes which will all be released simultaneously.

It will the penultimate season of the royal drama.

The Crown to end with Season 5

It has now been with its fifth run after the decision was made to end the show by creator Peter Morgan.

Imelda Staunton will portray the Queen in the final run.

Morgan said: "Imelda is an astonishing talent and will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.

"At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop."

Netflix has also revealed just how popular the series has been.

The show has been viewed by 73 million accounts since it launched in 2016, with viewership going up each season.

The third season was watched by 21 million accounts in its first four weeks of release.

Original star of The Crown and award-winning actress Claire Foy will as a young Queen Elizabeth II.

The actress will appear in a flashback scene in the fourth season.

Much of the new season will centred around the marriage of Prince Charles to the young aristocratic beauty Lady Diana Spencer, which is complicated by his continuing love of Camilla Parker Bowles.

Meanwhile, the Queen will grapple with a new prime minister in the form of the Iron Lady herself, Margaret Thatcher, whose actions bring wealth to some and destruction to others.

Other events will include the marriage of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, the death of Lord Mountbatten, the Falklands War, the end of the Cold War, economic troubles, and the Queen facing multiple instances of extreme danger.

The season is expected to end with the fall of Margaret Thatcher in 1990.
