Olivia Colman has opened about her “complicated” experiences of finding work in Hollywood as a woman in her mid-40s.
The star, who is set to star as Queen Elizabeth II in the next two seasons of Netflix’s The Crown, graces the cover of the October edition of Vogue and did not waste time describing the “textured” dynamics of landing roles.
The 45-year-old told the publication she did not land her first film part until after 40, adding that the roles she's offered are "definitely [...] getting more interesting, complicated, and textured.”
She added: “But women in their 40s are interesting.”
The star, who won a Best Actress Oscar earlier this year, also said she does not believe she would have made it big as a younger actress.
"To be the ingenue and to keep working is rare because once people see you as that, they don’t like the process of aging,” she said
“Which is fucking ridiculous!” Colman concluded. “I grew to my place.”
Netflix recently confirmed that the long-awaited third series of The Crown will return on November 17.
Confirming the news, they released a statement which parodied a traditional royal announcement.
"Dear Public," it read. "The official arrival date of the third series of The Crown is as follows: 17th November 2019.
"We would like to express deep gratitude to all those involved and we wish the public the most splendid of viewing experiences."
The third season of the hit costume drama will follow the Queen's reign between 1964 and 1977, with a brand new line-up of actors cast in the royal roles.
Colman, who has taken over from Claire Foy, will be joined by Tobias Menzies as Prince Phillip and Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret.
Ben Daniels will play the Princess's husband Tony Armstrong-Jones and God's Own Country star Josh O'Connor will play Prince Charles.
Emerald Fennell, who served as showrunner for Killing Eve's second series, will appear as Camilla Parker Bowles, while newcomer Erin Doherty has been cast as Princess Anne.
