The Crown’s Emma Corrin has been praised for opening up about their gender identity with their fans.

In a series of black and white portraits posted to their Instagram, Corrin shared that they were taken before they purchased their “first proper binder.”

Instead, the 25-year-old used boxing wrap in the images captured by photographer David-Simon Dayan.

They added: “Thanks for capturing this with me, very intimate, very new, very cool. It’s all a journey right.”

The English actor, most known for their Golden Globe-winning performance as Princess Diana in The Crown, ended the post with an uplifting message.

“Lots of twists and turns and change and that’s ok! Embrace it.”

Corrin has also changed their pronouns to “she/they” on their Instagram account.

Chest binding is when a person flattens their chest in order to reduce gender dysphoria or present in a way that is more congruent with their gender identity, according to LGBT foundation Pride in Practice.

The practice is primarily done by transgender men and nonbinary individuals in order to achieve a flatter, more masculine chest appearance.

It is recommended that individuals use a dedicated binder as other methods such as using athletic bandages or duct tape to bind can cause shortness of breath, skin damage, and musculoskeletal damage.

Corrin shared how they use a binder from the trans-owned company gc2b and told people to “bind safely, find what works for you.”

People online have praised Corrin for sharing their gender identity journey with their followers.

One fan wrote: “Thank you for sharing your journey with us, love u.”

“You have no idea how much this means to a lot of people...” another person added.

Someone else commented: “Thank you for stating which binder you use. My child recently came out to me and told me they wanted one. I’d no clue where to look or who to ask.”

“This is so powerful,” a fourth person replied.

Back in April last year, Corrin shared a photo wearing a wedding dress from their shoot with Pop magazine.

Many fans interpreted this as Corrin coming out when they posted the accompanying caption: “ur fave queer bride.”
