The Crown resumes filming following Queen's death with poignant Diana scenes

The Crown has resumed filming following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The monarch passed away last Thursday at her home in Balmoral, Scotland, with Buckingham Palace confirming the sad news in a statement shared with the world. Following her passing and in a mark of respect, filming was paused on the Netflix series, which documents key moments in the lives of the Royal Family.

The show's creator Peter Morgan confirmed last week when the sad news was announced that production would be briefly paused on the show, which he described as 'a love letter' to the late Head of State.

As he spoke last week, Peter - who also penned the hit film The Queen starring Helen Mirren in the titular role - confirmed they would be taking a short break from filming in a mark of respect to the monarch following her passing.

He shared with Deadline at the time in an email about the Queen's passing: "The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too."

Whilst filming stopped for a short while, it has now resumed and new pictures show actress Elizabeth Debicki working on new scenes of the Netflix show, all filmed in Barcelona as she plays the late Princess Diana.

The filming has resumed in the Spanish city, with the scenes being blocked the ones where the late Princess of Wales visited the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. It happened just a few weeks before she died.

In the new photos, Elizabeth can be seen in a pink shirt, as she spoke with actors playing staff. The scenes currently being filmed are related to Diana's trip to Sarajevo, where she attended there to promote the Landmine Survivors Network.

Netflix previously confirmed they had briefly suspended filming last Friday, and will again for the Queen's funeral next Monday.

"As a mark of respect, filming on The Crown was suspended today [Friday 9th September]. Filming will also be suspended on the day of Her Majesty The Queen's funeral," a spokesperson for the streaming service confirmed.

They are currently filming the sixth series, which is expected to cover the romance between Charles, the Prince of Wales as he was then, and Camilla, who is now Queen Consort after Charles' accessing to the throne. The series will also cover William at university.
