The Crown branded 'sick' as Netflix show scenes of Princess Diana's mangled car

The Crown is preparing for the release of series six but has come under fire for deciding to air distressing scenes following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

In previous seasons, the Netflix hit has been bashed for dramatically enhancing the truth, with former Prime Minister Tony Blair describing some scenes as "utter rubbish.

Following the marriage breakdown between King Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, the series will delve into their post-divorce life including Diana's relationship with Dodi Fayed.

Despite their romance blossoming and claims, Fayed was preparing to propose to the late Princess, the couple died in August 1997 following a fatal crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris.

Netflix are now pressing ahead and showing this in scenes filmed at Elstree Studios.

Images show the car completely destroyed with the bonnet left crushed and the dashboard thrown out of the windscreen.

It's believed that the mangled car was transported over to Paris under tarpaulin in order to film the tragic scenes documenting the final moments of Diana's tragic life.

Speaking to the MailOnline, a source said: "I think a lot of people will find it quite sick that they went into such detail to recreate how the car was smashed up.

"I think it's going to cause a lot of upset with the Royal Family, if it was any other family I'm not sure they'd do it."

Although Netflix have previously insisted that the exact moment of the deadly crash will not be aired on screens.

Meanwhile, a former friend of Diana has previously insisted that the series will risk forcing Princes William and Harry to relive "the most painful time of their lives".

Simone Simmons told The Sun: "I think it's disgusting and sick, why are they setting out to upset William and Harry?

"The makers of this programme do not care about the heir to the throne and everything he has been through."

Meanwhile, the upcoming series will also see the development of the romance between Prince William and his now-wife, Princess Catherine.

It's not known how much of Prince William and Kate's early relationship will feature on the sixth series of The Crown, with the show also focusing on the death of Princess Diana and the aftermath of her tragic passing.

It's been reported Dominic West's version of Prince Charles - now King Charles - will be distraught after seeing the body of his former wife.
