The Crow Girl is a twisted crime thriller and love story which is based on The Crow Girl novel by Erik Axl Sund. The tense drama stars Keeping Faith’s Eve Myles as DCI Jeanette Kilburn, a police officer who is tasked with catching the killer of a teenage boy.
Despite opposition from her bosses, Jeanette enlists the help of psychotherapist Sophia Craven, played by Mr Bates vs The Post Office star Katherine Kelly, and as the pair start to develop feelings for one another, they are pulled into a world of abuse, murder and police corruption.
"Jeanette is such a compelling character. As soon as I read the script, I knew I wanted to explore her story in more detail. It’s been a really terrific first few weeks on set working alongside a team of such incredible talented people," says Eve Myles.
Katherine Kelly adds: "It's an absorbing story which we filmed in beautiful Bristol. The book is thrilling and (screenwriter) Milly Thomas’ scripts are even better, and I was excited to unpick the character of Sophia as events in the series unfolded."

The Crow Girl plot
The Crow Girl starts when the bodies of unidentified young men start to show up around the city, beaten and full of the anaesthetic lidocaine, DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles) and partner DI Lou Stanley (Dougray Scott) are on the hunt for the killer. With a lack of evidence and pressure to solve the case mounting, the dogged cop Jeanette is convinced that there is a connection to creepy dentist Carl Lowry (Trevor White), who is already under arrest for possession of child abuse images, and is being clinically assessed by esteemed psychiatrist Dr Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly). As Jeanette seeks out Sophia’s help to unravel the mystery, the pair bond, but Sophia is also haunted by concerns about one of her disturbed patients, Victoria Burkeman (Clara Rugaard), AKA the Crow Girl, who has vanished. Are there links to Jeanette’s enquiries? With the killer inching ever closer to home, Jeanette and the team are in a race against time to untangle the web of secrets to solve this mystery. The pair find themselves pulled into the dangerous world of historic abuse and police corruption, and the body count rises, the killer is inching ever closer to home.

Eve Myles stars as determined cop DCI Jeanette Kilburn who is at the heart of the murder investigation in The Crow Girl. "Jeanette doesn't beat around the bush, is unfiltered, unforgiving and relentless,’ says former Torchwood star Eve. "She’s juggling work and her family but this case is the start of something that changes her life. She knows that this isn't going to stop, and she’ll go to any lengths to get answers."
* Eve Myles made her name as Faith in the hit series Keeping Faith and recently appeared alongside Idris Elba in the drama Hijack. Eve has also had roles in Doctor Who, Torchwood, We Hunt Together, A Very English Scandal, Cold Feet, Victoria and Broadchurch.
Katherine Kelly on playing Dr Sophia Craven
Katherine Kelly plays psychotherapist Dr Sophia Craven in The Crow Girl. "Sophia’s wrestling with the past and her other case, but she feels empowered by the serial killer investigation because it’s a race against time," shares Katherine. "It disturbs her equilibrium though, you start to see glitches in her behaviour. Not all is as it seems and Sophia is full of surprises…
"Sophia and Jeanette both function in similar ways. They are instinctive, independent thinkers, and play outside the lines."

The Crow Girl also stars Vigil and Mission: Impossible actor Dougray Scott who will play DI Lou Stanley and Elliot Edusah (Django) is DC Mike Dilliston who Lou takes under his wing during his first murder investigation.
Dougray Scott was immediately intrigued by the prospect of portraying DCI Jeanette Kilburn’s irreverent sidekick, DI Lou Stanley as he told us in an exclusive chat. "He’s not in the original novel but he’s interesting. I was attracted to playing someone whose approach to police work is different. He’s a dinosaur, but refreshingly honest, off-hand and witty. He doesn’t pay heed to the regulations, he sees an opportunity to operate within his own guidelines. He’s a maverick, and has secrets."
Lou’s long-term friendship with Jeanette is also at the heart of the drama, but their bond undergoes strain as the investigation takes its toll…
"He and Jeanette work well as a team and he's part of her family, having never had his own. His life is his work, as are the boys he trains at the gym, who he wants to keep out of trouble," shares Dougray. "There’s a shift and clash of ideologies with Jeanette, though, due to choices Lou’s made. But working with Eve has been great, she’s terrific!"

The Crow Girl was filmed in the Bristol area of the UK in 2024. The series was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer, UK, and Paul Testar for Paramount+. Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart are executive producers for Buccaneer along with Milly Thomas who adapted the series for the screen. Charles Martin and Rebecca Rycroft are both directors of the series with Andy Mosse serving as producer. The Crown Girl is produced in association with and distributed by ITV Studios.
