The cottage sixty minutes from Manchester named one of the UK's best

Nestled in the heart of the Peak District, just over an hour’s drive from Greater Manchester, is the gorgeous village of Castleton. Lying in the shadow of the iconic Mam Tor, this picture-postcard village is full of old cottages and cosy pubs.

It’s also where you’ll find one of the best Airbnbs in the UK in 2023, as named by Conde Nast Traveller. The 200-year-old cottage is found in a row of terraces and offers guests the ultimate rural escape.

According to Conde Nast Traveller the Airbnb is full of luxury touches for guests to enjoy - including “locally made pork pies” left in the kitchen. The cottage sleeps up to four guests and up to three dogs (depending on size) so it’s perfect if you’re looking for a dog-friendly holiday.

Step through the porch and you’ll discover the cosy living room, with comfy leather sofas and chairs you can relax on and a wood-burning stove to keep you warm when the nights turn chilly. The space is tastefully decorated - it has a quintessential cottage-feel without being cluttered and fussy.

The kitchen is painted in a cheerful blue and has all the mod-cons you’d need for your stay. Guests can enjoy meals at the rustic kitchen table and there’s a door which leads you to the tiny courtyard to the rear.

Despite its appearances the cottage is deceptively spacious inside. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms with luxurious furnishings, ensuring you can enjoy a restful night’s sleep. On this floor you’ll also find the shower room with plenty of fluffy towels to use and chic fittings which give the cottage a boutique hotel feel.

Although it could be tempting to spend the entire time enjoying the cottage, there’s plenty to do right on its doorstep. Conde Nast Traveller describes Castleton as “one of the loveliest villages in all of the Peaks - filled with little pubs and sweet cafes.”

Whether you’re into walking, cycling, paragliding or potholing, Castleton has something for everyone. The village is overlooked by the ruins of Peveril Castle, which dates back 1086. There are several caves in the area, including Peak Cavern, which boasts the largest cave entrance in Britain and is playfully known as the ‘Devil’s Arse’.

Castleton is packed full of places to eat and drink, several of which are dog-friendly. Tuck into a tasty treat from the iconic Castleton Fish and Chips shop, or enjoy a cosy evening at one of the village’s traditional pubs.
