Most of the time celebrities tend to be the focus of any photo they're in, but occasionally their bodyguards will upstage them.
Of the men and women protecting Hollywood celebrities and members of the Royal Family , some have even become Instagram famous or as close as family to their clients.
When Jennifer Lawrence 's bodyguard Greg Lenz was photographed in 2015 - cradling her Chihuahua in one beefy arm as he carried her bag - he was propelled into Internet fame.
The same followed for the rest of Lawrence's handsome security detail, including Justin Riblet who also has been seen guarding Brooklyn Beckham and now another unnamed man.
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe 's bodyguards have also been referred to as "movie-star handsome" and are regularly seen model scowling in the background beside him.
Another popular bodyguard is Tim Chung - frequently seen with Kylie Jenner, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian , while Adele and Lady Gaga are both fans of Peter van der Veen, a former Mr Europe.
The women of the Royal Family also prefer to hire female protection officers, who are underrepresented in the industry.
Both the Duchess of Sussex and Cambridge have been seen on official engagements with suited up professionals, with Emma Probert in particular stealing the show with her occasional colourful scarves.
The Kardashian family - Tim Chung
Chung is probably the most talked about bodyguard on the list - he’s even verified on Instagram and has been the subject of a conspiracy theory.
While he primarily worked with Kylie Jenner, he was also seen working with both Kim and Kourtney Kardashian.
The LAPD cop has also worked as a model in the past and appears to be a momma’s boy, as his very first Instagram post was of himself with her calling her “my everything.”
When rumours circulated online that Chung was the 'real' father of Kylie's daughter Stormi, Chung hit back to say they were "laughable", posting a now-deleted statement on Instagram: “I am a very private person and would normally never answer to the gossip and stories that are so ridiculous that they are laughable."
“Out of deep respect for Kylie, Travis, their daughter together and their families, I would like to set the record straight and say that my interactions with Kylie and her family have been limited in a strictly professional capacity only."
Jennifer Lawrence’s bodyguard - Greg Lenz
Jennifer Lawrence's bodyguards have also stolen the show more than once.
One of her most famous bodyguards is a man named Greg Lenz, who has been working with her since 2013 and captured the Internet's heart when he was seen carrying her tiny Chihuahua.
He was reportedly scouted as a model at a Denver shopping mall and did a few shoots, with photographer Martin Stout telling the NY Post he was “funny, down to earth and just an all-around good guy.”
According to Elle, working in security wasn’t always for him as he originally studied architecture at the University of Colorado.
He is also reportedly married, just in case you're hoping to enact a Kevin Costner x Whitney Houston 2.0.
Jennifer Lawrence’s bodyguard - Unknown
It’s not uncommon for stars to have more than one bodyguard, but it is uncommon for more than one of them to be devastatingly handsome.
Lenz isn't the only one in Lawrence's security detail, as she has also been seen over the years with this unknown man.
He’s also been seen accompanying her around town to go shopping, where he was seen helping her with a car door in a more low-key outfit.
The Beckham family’s bodyguard - Bobby Rich
Bodyguard Bobby Rich is a familiar face for any Beckham fans as he's frequently seen guarding the celebrity family’s children.
Seen most commonly with Brooklyn, he has also been spotted taking the kids ice skating and busting out a denim jacket with Romeo in New York.
Rich, who also works as a personal trainer and works out with David Beckham, has also dated a few celebrities in his time.
Before singer Ellie Goulding married art dealer Caspar Jopling, she and Rich were seen on dates together between 2016-2017 while he previously dated Love Island contestant Arabella Chi.
Daniel Radcliffe’s bodyguard - Sam
Identified only as ‘Sam’ by The Telegraph and the New York Times, Radcliffe’s bodyguard is one of two security guards he’s worked with for several years.
In an in-depth piece with the New York Times about Radcliffe’s 2013 stint at the Venice Film Festival, Sam was described as 'laconic, 6 foot 3 and movie-star handsome' who had the difficult task of keeping Radcliffe safe from hordes of screaming Harry Potter fans.
Described as being ‘never more than an arm’s length away’ - at one point he had to snatch Radcliffe away from a barrier as a crowd surged towards him - he also puts precision planning into the smallest details, including how Radcliffe is going to get to the bathroom without being mobbed.
Besides Venice Film Festival, he has been seen accompanying Radcliffe at LAX Airport and quickly ushering him from the stage door at the Noel Coward Theatre and into a car over the course of his stint in The Cripple of Inishman.
He was also described by the New York Times as one of Radcliffe’s ‘older brothers: fun, but responsible and organised.’
Beyonce’s bodyguard - Julius de Boer
It’s no surprise that Queen Bey expects nothing but excellence from her team and she hired Julius de Boer, who started his own security company at the age of 24 and remains CEO of what has now become an international operation with offices in Abu Dhabi, London and New York.
Trained in Krav Maga and Systema, the Amsterdam-born bodyguard holds a psychology degree from the University of Amsterdam and is believed to speak five languages.
He is believed to have started working for her in 2008 and has seen her through thick and thin, on land and sea.
He is also the only person beyond the Carter-Knowles family to know what happened in the lift after the Met Gala, when Solange was captured on a security camera lashing out at Beyonce’s husband - de Boer was the one who pulled her away from him.
The Beyhive is pretty enamoured with him, with one fan pulling together a thread of all of his “iconic moments” - which included stopping a little girl from running after Beyonce for her autograph and being ordered by Beyonce to “move Julius!” as she filmed a music video.
When a paparazzo hit him, Jay-Z jumped in to confront the man as de Boer led Beyonce away. He does not appear to work for the family anymore, possibly focusing on his security company.
Katy Perry’s bodyguard - Unknown
No, Hugh Jackman hasn’t embarked on a new career. Perry’s bodyguard, who many have noted bears a remarkable resemblance to the Wolverine actor, has been seen looking after the singer.
From making sure she got out safely after having dinner with Niall Horan in 2013 through to helping her around town in new York in 2015, don’t be surprised if he’s cast in a remake of X-Men any time soon.
Rihanna’s bodyguard - Frank
We don’t know much about Rihanna’s towering bodyguard, but we do know his name is “Frank” - mostly because Rihanna shouted “Thanks Frank!” as he accidentally let a door hit her in the face once.
He’s been seen protecting her on both sides of the United States, from a visit to the dentist’s office to a flight out of Los Angeles.
Meghan Markle’s bodyguard - Unknown
Over the course of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal tour to Fiji, her female bodyguard (who has not been named) was seen guarding her on a visit to Suva market.
The Metropolitan Police officer has not been named for security reasons, but she was seen expertly guiding Meghan out of the market after a security scare.
The Sunday Times reported that she stepped down after six months in the role - additionally leaving the police force altogether - and a source told Harper’s Bazaar that she “enjoyed working with” Meghan.
She was also hailed as “brilliant” and reportedly helped develop the security plan for the Sussexes’ Windsor home Frogmore Cottage.
Lady Gaga, Iggy Azalea and Adele’s bodyguard - Peter Van der Veen
Van der Veen is a popular choice for celebrities in Hollywood, having worked for a long time for Adele and Lady Gaga.
Van der Veen, a former bodybuilder who won Mr Europe in 2005, hails from Holland and can be frequently seen in the background of photos.
There’s a chance you might even know what he sounds like, as Lady Gaga and her producer DJ White Shadow roped Van der Veen into featuring on a track called 'Government Hooker.'
The DJ said, “The guy that’s actually talking, that’s her security guard. We were sitting there thinking how to make a computerised voice, so we were like, ‘Let’s get Pete in here’.”
“He’s got a super-thick Dutch accent, and he’s trying to read off paper. It was insane, and he just talks like that.”
Kate Middleton’s bodyguard - Emma Probert
The Duchesses of the Royal Family work regularly with female protection officers and Kate’s relationship with Emma Probert is a long one, as she was first assigned to Kate in 2010, the year she became engaged to Prince William.
Always dressed in a sharp suit and a button-up shirt, Probert has looked after the Duchess for a decade and the pair are said to be very close.
She was seen in February 2019 with Kate on her visit to Northern Ireland, during which the Duchess wore a blue cape that Harry Potter fans believed to be reminiscent to uniforms worn by students at French wizarding school Beauxbatons.
According to E! News, Probert was widowed in 2009 after her first husband died in a skiing accident - but later fell in love with one of the Queen’s bodyguards: Colin Childs.
A source said via Marie Claire that when Probert announced she was pregnant in 2012, “Catherine was so happy for Emma. She told her she’d be the best mum and joked that she had 'beaten her to it'!”
The source added that Probert had “become a really close confidante to Catherine and she gets on really well with her partner Colin [Childs], too.”
Another source told The Sun it was believed Meghan’s prospective bodyguards would “learn the necessary ropes with Emma first” and “would then be transferred to Meghan and Harry’s team."
