The January transfer window proved to be both frustrating and underwhelming for Swansea City.
Not a single player joined the club, with the only addition in the opening month of the year seeing Morgan Whittaker return to the Swansea.com Stadium from his loan spell with League One leaders Plymouth Argyle.
Meanwhile, a total of six players left SA1, with Michael Obafemi joining Burnley while Brandon Cooper and Jordon Garrick both headed to Forest Green Rovers.
Nathanael Ogbeta secured a loan switch to Peterborough United while Armstrong Oko-Flex and Fin Stevens were recalled by West Ham United and Brentford respectively.
It leaves Russell Martin's squad thin to say the least, and the calf injury sustained by Joel Latibeaudiere during the dramatic 4-3 defeat to Birmingham City only adds salt to the already gaping wounds.
The club's owners will undoubtedly view the summer window as a more suitable time to delve into the transfer market, but Martin has more than made his feelings known on the club's dealings this week.
There are a number of contract concerns to solve, with players such as Ryan Manning and Joel Latibeaudiere seeing their current deals expire in the summer.
"Out of all of this, whatever’s happened, we have a massive chance to do things right now and learn from this," said the head coach.
"Hopefully that’ll be the case and we’ve also got some important stuff to do between now and the end of the season and trying to get some of our players to sign new contracts.
"That’s the worry now, that this window will have repercussions moving forward for the summer window. The best way we can alleviate that is to commit some of our players to signing new contracts now, to maybe try and get some pre-contracts done for the summer with the free agents that are out there.
"We have some really important players out of contract, we have some really important players that have a year left in the summer. Let’s not wait, let’s get that done.
"Steven Benda, Ryan Manning, Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton has a year left in the summer, we have some young players that have done incredibly well that we need to protect ourselves on and also reward them if we're going to be the club we really want to be and play young players, they need rewarding when they do well, like Ollie Cooper has been."
There are also issues surrounding the futures of Whittaker and Jamie Paterson who both could have left the Swans in January, with Martin admitting the latter is not part of his plans as things currently stand.
With all of that in mind, this is when the contract of every Swansea player is due to expire.
