The confusion over paid Twitter verification and actual verified accounts led to a hilarious new meme

We saw it all over Twitter on Wednesday as users could purchase a blue checkmark: Users who bought in and created fake accounts for everyone from faux LeBron James to Aroldis Chapman to Adam Schefter. It was chaotic and terrible for sports fans.

There’s a way to tell the difference in blue checkmarks: clicking on an account’s check will tell you if it’s verified because it’s “notable in government, news, entertainment, or another designated category” or if it’s “verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue.”

This led to a very funny sports meme that popped up Wednesday night involving actual athletes and their lookalikes:
