'The club is broken' — Man United fans fume at Glazers as Man City close in on Kalvin Phillips

Manchester United fans have slammed the club and the Glazers once again after seeing Manchester City move a step closer to signing Kalvin Phillips.

City are closing in on a deal after reaching an agreement with Leeds United, with the Blues set to pay around £45million for the midfielder. The transfer will see Pep Guardiola’s side complete their second signing of the summer, having already secured Erling Haaland.

United, meanwhile, are still waiting to land their first new addition as Erik ten Hag’s rebuild gets off to a slow start. United have been linked with plenty of names, although their efforts so far have proven fruitless.

Phillips’ move to City will be a particularly tough pill for United fans to swallow. United had been working on a deal to sign the Leeds midfielder earlier this year, but now look set to miss out on another potential addition, having already seen Darwin Nunez make the move to Liverpool this summer.

And on the same day the Glazers took out an £11m dividend, the news could not have come at a worse time for United. Fans did not take too kindly to their neighbours beating them to another potential signing.

Despite a defensive midfielder being the priority earlier in the year, Ten Hag’s summer targets seem to have diverted away from United’s original plans for Phillips. The Dutchman’s five ideal signings have become clear over the course of the window, although attempts to land them have not produced any results yet.

United are set to submit another bid as they continue their pursuit of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong. They also retain an interest in Jurrien Timber, Antony, Christian Eriksen and Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachman, with Dean Henderson set to join Nottingham Forest.
