It's Friday and many households across Nottingham will be having a chippy tea. Fish and chips takes some beating at the end of the week with no quibbling over what to order except mushy peas, beans, gravy or curry sauce.
Greater Nottingham - that's the city, Rushcliffe, Broxtowe and Gedling - has an abundance of chip shops but not all are equal when it comes to hygiene ratings. The good news is many of them are sparklingly clean and well-managed with a top rating.
Local authority inspectors score food businesses from zero, which demands urgent improvement, to five, which means hygiene standards are exemplary. The rating is based on how food is handled, stored and prepared, the cleanliness of the facilities and how food safety is managed.
