The city named Wales' best night out - and it's not Cardiff

The city best for a night out in Wales has been named. You'd be forgiven for thinking its Cardiff, but it's not.

Swansea has been crowned the best night out in Wales, and features sixth on the UK-wide list.

The study, from Get Licensed, analysed the number of venues per head, the cost of a pint and a range of safety issues to reveal the best nights out in Britain. You can get more Swansea stories here.

With a score of 6.59/10, Swansea have won the title of best night out in Wales, and sixth best in the UK. Swansea beat popular towns such as Plymouth, Newcastle and Aberdeen and was the only Welsh city to appear on the list.

The second city of Wales had the twelfth highest night out drinking score, with the average pint costing £3.50. It also came eighth on the night out safety index, with a Numero score of 64.52, and more than half the people surveyed said they felt safe walking home at night in the city.

The overall top spot was taken by York, which had the highest Numbeo safety score, the highest score for safely walking home at night and the lowest scores for fear of being robbed or the victim of a hate crime.

Get Licensed said: "Famous for its excellent offering of pubs and bars, including some that are hundreds of years old and some of the most haunted venues in the country, York has a diverse and interesting nightlife that has something for everyone. Combining this variety with some of the best scores in every safety category, York is a great night out where you can have fun without feeling unsafe or at risk."

Blackpool was crowned the best drinking spot in the country, with a large number of clubs, bars and pubs for its relatively small population and reasonable beer prices (A pint up north came in at £3.07).

In last place was Coventry which was short of pubs, bars and clubs and scored poorly for safety and fear of crime.
