The Christmas Day Weather Forecast Is Here, But It’s Not All Festive Cheer

Typically, the most guess work involved with the festive period is figuring out what to gift your loved ones.

However, a close second (really a first in our books) when it comes to planning festivities is what to wear on Christmas day.

So, to take the guesswork out of what to wear come Christmas Day, we’ve outlined below what you can expect from the weather.

Christmas Day Weather 2024 By City

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, we can expect a hot but soggy summer this coming December, but does that mean it’s all grey skies and rain clouds come the 25th?

Thankfully, your favourite fashion focused pseudo meterorlogists (a.k.a us) have done the research for you.

We’ve looked around the country on AccuWeather and rounded up what each major city can anticipate for Christmas.

Sydney Forecast

For Sydneysiders, the week leading up to Christmas will be marked by a string of mostly sunny days with tops of 28°C expected that should carry through to the end of the month. Both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures of 25°C and 28°C, with cloud coverage and a temperature of 24°C expected for Boxing Day.

Considering the weather reached a high of 25°C on Christmas Day in 2023 with showers, this is definitely set to be a warmer, sunnier Christmas.

Melbourne Forecast

Down in Melbourne, the forecast is looking a little cooler than that of Sydney.

AccuWeather claims December 25 is set to be mostly cloudy with the temperature sitting at  25°C. No sunburn, no overheating, sounds perfect to us.

Hobart Forecast

Hobart is expecting to be a lot cooler than the rest of Australia, with a high of just 18°C estimated for Christmas Day. In more gloomy news for the Tassie capital, it’s expected to rain fon Christmas Eve with a top of 18°C.

Adelaide Forecast

Over in South Australia, Adelaide can expect warm temps on Christmas Day, with temperatures sitting at 24°C and some cloud coverage.

Darwin Forecast

We only have bad news to report for Darwin, not just this Christmas but the entirety of December. Currently, the forecast is showing thunderstorms almost every day of the month including Dember 25 which will also be a top of 33°C. Sorry, folks.

Perth Forecast

On the West Coast, like much of December, Perth can expect a full day of sunshine with tops of 29°C. We guess this is what they’re talking about when they say ‘west is best’.

Brisbane Forecast

In Brisbane, you can expect warm temps with cloud coverage for most of the week including Chrismtas day with the temperature sitting at a lush 28°C.

We will caveat that these forecasts are subject to change and given how far out we are from December 25, we highly recommend keeping an eye on the weather in the lead up to the big day. Oh, and always have a wet weather contingency plan. Always.
