The shops have already started to sell Christmas decorations — it’s less than 60 sleeps til’ the BIG day — so it makes sense that there are already some predictions for what the weather will be like for Christmas Day 2024 in Australia.
Weather you love planning ahead or just plan to rock up on the day, you can’t help but admit it’s pretty darn handy to know if it’s gonna be rain or shine on December 25.
Now, we are a *bit* far from the date, so the weather predictions are slightly vague at the moment, but we’ll keep updating them as they pour in.
Taking a peek at what sources like AccuWeather and The Bureau Of Meteorology have to say, it looks like we’re in for a bit of a mixed bag. The long-range forecast currently stretches up to 25 December 2024, so we can get an idea of what Christmas Day 2024 looks like.
Here are the Christmas Day weather forecasts for each capital city:
Christmas Day weather 2024 for Aussie cities
Sydney, New South Wales
Although I wish the Christmas break weather forecast was sunny days across the board, we’ve got a mixed mag in the lead-up to Christmas Day with a couple of rainy days here and there. The temperature still seems like it’ll be on the hotter side, but never fear, because 25 December looks clear! It’s not too hot either, so both you and your pits will be staying bone dry.
- Temperature: High of 25°C, low of 16°C.
- Weather: Intervals of cloud and sun.
Melbourne, Victoria
For those based in Melbourne, your Christmas day will have all sorts of weather events. There’s likely to be showers early on but don’t worry, plenty of bright sunny moments so you can enjoy a spot of backyard cricket with the cousins.
- Temperature: High of 24°C, low of 16°C.
- Weather: Bright periods with a couple of showers, mainly early on.
Adelaide, South Australia
Adelaide is in for a treat this Christmas time! I’m talking days upon days of glorious, not-too-hot sun from the 22nd through to Boxing Day. Yahoo!!!
- Temperature: High of 24°C, low of 14°C.
- Weather: A full day of sun.
Perth, Western Australia
Just like Adelaide, Perth will become a sun-drenched Christmas paradise. The sun is out in full force, but it’s a perfectly reasonable temperature.
- Temperature: High of 28°C, low of 17°C.
- Weather: Abundant amounts of sunshine.
Hobart, Tasmania
Tassie’s capital has a slightly cooler Christmas on the cards, and it looks pretty wet the week leading up to Christmas. However, the week of 22 December is mostly sunny, although it’s a bit crisp.
- Temperature: High of 19°C, low of 12°C.
- Weather: Cloudy with a possibility of thunderstorms.
Darwin, Northern Territory
I fear Darwin is gonna be HOT, HOT, HOT for Christmas. Like, you’re gonna be drenched with sweat kinda hot. In the week leading up to Christmas, there’s a mix of sunny and partly cloudy days, with an average high of 35°C and a low of 25°C. I would simply perish.
- Temperature: High of 34°C, low of 25°C.
- Weather: Considerable cloudiness with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm early on in the day.
Canberra, Australian Capital Territory
Canberra is *probably* staying dry on Christmas Day, with the week prior forecasted to be mostly sunny with a smattering of rain. Locals may need to rug up during the evening though, because the lowest temp is a bit chilly.
- Temperature: High of 25°C, low of 10°C.
- Weather: Periods of clouds and sunshine throughout the day.
Brisbane, Queensland
Well, Bris-Vegas could be getting a bit stormy for their Christmas pressie. At least it’s warm??
- Temperature: High of 30°C, low of 20°C.
- Weather: Sunny periods with thundery showers.

Sunshine Coast, Queensland
It’s a mixed bag in Maroochydore on Christmas Day! From sunshine to moments of cloud cover, thunderstorms and clear skies, you’ll have it all, baby!!!
- Temperature: High of 28°C, low of 21°C.
- Weather: Intervals of cloudiness and sunshine.
Newcastle, New South Wales
Newcastle will be sitting at a beautiful temperature on Christmas Day. However, it will be a little bit cloudy.
- Temperature: High of 26°C, low of 16°C
- Weather: Partial sunshine with a shower storm or thunderstorm.
Townsville, Queensland
It’s looking like Townsville is in for a lovely, sunny day but don’t forget the SPF because the UV levels are shaping up to be pretty damn high.
- Temperature: High of 34°C, low of 25°C
- Weather: Intervals of cloudiness and sunshine.
