Australian golfer Min Woo Lee, aka The Chef, aka Dr Chipinski, has snagged his first PGA Tour victory, winning the 2025 Houston Open with a single shot in an enthralling finish.
The 26-year-old beat out some of the world’s top golfers, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and former US Open winner Gary Woodland to win his maiden PGA Tour victory.
The latest win on Monday (local time) is a pretty big deal for the young Aussie after several runner-up finishes and multiple wins on the European Tour.
For golf fans, Lee’s drama-filled finish made for an exciting watch. After extending his four-shot third-round advantage to five at one point, Lee’s buffer was slashed to one down the stretch after he found the water off the tee on the par-5 16th and Scheffler reeled off four successive birdies, per the AAP.
But the Perth prodigy recovered from his first bogey in 41 holes to par the last two to secure the biggest win of his life.
Lee eventually closed with a three-under-par 67 to post a tournament total of 20-under 260.
“At this point in his career, that is likely the most important putt he’s made in his life,” one of the commentators said on the 18th hole.
It’s his first win on any tour since the Australian PGA in November 2023 and a big milestone just two weeks out from the Masters. Don’t be surprised if the WA prodigy’s riding on a major confidence boost.
The first major of the year, the Masters Tournament, is scheduled for April 10-13 at Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia.
