Drivers have noticed a notable drop in petrol and diesel prices in recent weeks but fears are mounting that per litre prices could rise above €2 again before the end of the year.
Earlier this year, drivers were hit with prices as high as €2.20 per litre with providers blaming the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and soaring costs of production as the main factor.
However, prices stabilised and have now falling back well below€2 a litre with some places offering great bargains.

Drivers may want to top up their tanks soon before prices rise again. Prices could spike above €2 again as early as next week, according to a report in the Irish Independent.
They also report that Government leaders are planning for shortages and working on a plan to prioritise supplies to essential workers and industries.
We have looked around today to find the cheapest spots to buy petrol and diesel across the country with prices varying wildly.
Petrol
Petrol is available at €1.76.9 at Texaco in Fermoy. It is €1.79.8 at Applegreen on Dublin Road, Portlaoise, Co Laois.
Petrol is €179.9 at Top on Main Street Blacklion, Co Cavan. It is the same price in Top Oil, Lock Quay, Limerick, Great Gas Express, Limerick, Circle K, Richmond Rd, Fairview, Dublin, Tesco, Clearwater, Finglas, Dublin and Campus, East Wall Road, Dublin 3.
Diesel
Dublin is the cheapest for diesel but you will have to shop around. Maxol in Ringsend has diesel for €1.80.8 while Applegreen in Inchicore is €1.83.3.
Circle K in Tallaght in more than €0.10 a litre more expensive at €1.95, according to the latest data available.
In most other counties, diesel is at least €183 a litre. It is as high as €1.91 in Roscommon.
