The Chase viewers squirm as 'golden rule' broken just minutes into show

Fans of The Chase were left cringing after one contestant broke an unspoken rule in the first few minutes of Tuesday's show.

Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players on this week's final edition of the popular ITV show.

Dan, Freddie, Doreen and Alex were testing their wits against Anne Hegerty in a bid to win big money.

Alex, a 41-year-old TV listings writer who lives in London, was first up against The Governess.

But before he answered any questions, he admitted something that immediately set viewers off.

When Bradley asked him what he does when he isn't working, Alex said: "I'm a quizmaster, so I do about two of those a week."

Chase fans took to Twitter to explain the mistake he had made.

Mr Chambers said: "I’m a quiz setter = kiss of death… #TheChase"

R A Poe said: "Don't pronounce the Q word if you haven't won yet."

TR1PLE_6 said: "NEVER EVER say you're a quizzer on national TV!"

JRsArmchair said: "Never goes well when they say they’re quiz masters."

Lydia Gerver said: "Never admit you're a quizzer, that's the golden rule surely?"

Fortunately for Alex, he managed to make it back to his team with £4,000 in the bank.

Whether he takes home any money remains to be seen.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
