The Chase viewers shocked after Mark Labbett references Philip Schofield on show

ITV The Chase viewers were shocked yesterday after Chaser Adam Lambert referenced Philip Schofield on the show.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four quizzers, Hilary, Dickie, Eleanor and Paddy, on Wednesday's game show.

The team were testing their wits against Mark Labbett in a bid to win a huge cash prize.

Bradley's players were in superb form as they all secured a place in the final chase after beating The Beast.

The team were competing for £25,000 and continued their excellent showing as they built up 20 steps.

Mark was desperately trying to catch when Bradley asked: "Who presented the ITV game show, Small Fortune?"

The Chaser quickly answered Phillip Schofield, but this proved to be incorrect as it was Dermot O'Leary.

Mark's attempts to catch the team were unsuccessful as he could only build up 17 steps.

However, viewers were distracted by the mention of the former This Morning host who quit ITV after he admitted having an affair with a younger male colleague.

James tweeted: "Philip Schofield? bad timing!" Steve added: "Schofield klaxon."

Today's edition of the Chase was a repeat that first aired on February 3, 2021.

However, it was broadcast on the day ITV bosses, Dame Carolyn McCall and managing director Kevin Lygo, have faced questions from MPs about the former This Morning host's exit from the programme during a Culture, Media and Sport Committee session
