The Chase star dubs Ibrox as 'dung heap' in Scottish football question blunder

A Scottish football stadium question came up on Wednesday night's episode of The Chase, and Anne Hegerty couldn't have been more off the mark if she tried.

On Wednesday night's episode of the ITV show, Craig from Manchester, Ioan from Cardiff, Penny from Sunderland and Cathy from Devon came together in the hope of taking down a Chaser. That Chaser was Anne Hegerty, and she was ready to do battle with the four contestants.

Cathy was in the hot seat against Anne, and was two leaps from safety when a Scottish football question came up. The question was: "What Scottish football team plays at a stadium with a name meaning 'dung heap'?"

The choices were Aberdeen, Dundee United and Rangers. Given that Pittodrie, where Aberdeen play, translates from Gaelic to 'Hill of Dung', that was the accurate answer.

But, Cathy went for Dundee United, or Tannadice Park. As the correct answer flashed up to be Aberdeen, host Bradley and Cathy waited with baited breath to see if Anne had bagged it right.

However, Anne comically had chosen the only other incorrect answer - Ranger's Ibrox stadium. When asked to explain her answer, Anne said: "I had no idea, but I realised that I don't know what Ibrox means, so who knows?"

This clip has been shared various times on social media, as one Twitter user posted the video with the caption: "Anne Hegarty in The Chase goes for Ibrox means Dungheap!" alongside three laughing face emojis.

The tweet has been viewed over 162,000 times and has received a mountain of replies all poking fun at the Glasgow team.

One Twitter user said: "She know does Anne and she did it with a straight face."

Another wrote: "Correct answer tho?"

And a third said: "Can't believe they didn't say she was correct."

A fourth argued: "She didn’t know what Ibrox meant. It was just a guess."

And another noted: "She's actually spot on!"

Finally, one concluded: "Shouted Rangers at tele before answers came up then nearly p*** when she picked it."

The Chase will return to ITV and STV on Thursday, January 5 at 5pm. Catch-up episodes are available on the STV Player.
